(nitrofurantoin macrocrystals) Capsules
To reduce the development ofdrug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of Macrodantin and other antibacterial drugs, Macrodantin should be used only to treat or preventinfections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
DRUG DESCRIPTIONMacrodantin is a syntheticchemical of controlled crystal size. It is a stable, yellow, crystallinecompound. Macrodantin is an antibacterial agent for specific urinary tract infections. It is available in 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg capsules for oraladministration.
Inactive Ingredients: Each capsule contains edible black ink, gelatin, lactose,starch, talc, titanium dioxide, and may contain FD&C Yellow No. 6 andD&C Yellow No. 10.
What are the possible side effects of nitrofurantoin (Furadantin, Macrobid, Macrodantin)?Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using nitrofurantoin and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

What are the precautions when taking nitrofurantoin macrocystals capsule (Macrodantin)?Before taking nitrofurantoin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: little or no urine output (oliguria or anuria), severe kidney disease, certain genetic conditions (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency), a history of liver problems due to nitrofurantoin use in the past.
